The pages from USCAL’s website have been designed and revised by following the guidelines defined in the document 'Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0', prepared by the WAI work group, which belongs to the W3C .

The object of these guidelines is to facilitate access to the information offered to all citizens on the Internet. Among the measures which have been adopted we find the following:

The language used both for the web contents and their structure is XHTML 1.0 Transitional. To lay out the elements and to present them in a graphic manner Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) have been used.

  • All the pages have been validated as XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.0
  • All images contain a brief description by means of the alt feature.
  • All the links contain a description by means of the title feature.

The sources that are used have dimensions of a relative size, which allows the user to control such size from the browser that he or she may be using.

They also facilitate access to the different sections in a fast and direct way. Here is the list of the main shortcuts available within the website: §

S: Skip the browsing and go straight to the contents

0: Go to the Site Map

1: Go to Contact section

2: Go back Home

3: Go to Accessibility section

The way to activate the keyboard shortcuts depends on the browser. The most common ones are the following:

  • Internet Explorer: ALT + letter + ENTER
  • Netscape: ALT + letter
  • Mozilla: ALT + letter
  • Opera: CAPITAL LETTERS + ESC + letter

The website facilitates a coherent browsing by keeping to the same structure in all its pages. The aforementioned structure is made of:

  • A heading with links to the web site general sections: Contact, Site Map, Search Engine as well as versions in other languages.
  • The main browsing menu, located to the left, contains links to specific sections within each main section.
  • A central area in which the website contents are shown.
  • A banner with links to sections related to LSSICE: Privacy Policy, Legal Notice, Accessibility, Copyright etc...

The present website uses layers and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for the visual design of the pages. This way the contents are independent from the presentation and the users may browse the information, disabling the download of style pages on their browser.

The website has been validated through the tools TAW y W3C Markup Validation Service

The accessibility level that has been reached is double A (AA).

This website conforms to the following requirements:

  • Conformity with 3WC specifications for XHTML language, 1.0 version.
  • Conformity with the syntax specified by 3WC for CSS 2.0 style pages.
  • Conformity with Accessibility Guidelines for Web Content 1.0, with Double A Level, according to WAI.
